Publication Launch: Patriarchy in Politics and Political Parties of Pakistan

A media roundtable was convened on Tuesday, April 11th 2023, to discuss the "Gender Responsiveness of the Budget Process in Pakistan." The event was organized by FES Pakistan and the Women Parliamentary Caucus (WPC), and was attended by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf. In his remarks, he praised the efforts of the WPC in Pakistan and underscored the significance of gender equality in budget planning. He also assured the WPC of his support for future projects related to gender budgeting.

Dr. Shahida Rehmani, the Secretary of the WPC, spoke at the event about the importance of incorporating a gender perspective across various sectors of the economy, such as health, education, and development. She emphasized the need to embed a gender perspective in the national budget. Shaista Pervaiz Malik, Member of the National Assembly and former Secretary of the WPC, also attended the event and discussed the challenges faced in promoting gender equality within Pakistan's budgetary framework.

During the event, the guest speakers highlighted the crucial role of the media in creating awareness about gender perspective in legislation and policymaking in Pakistan. Media personnel present at the event had the opportunity to ask questions to the guest speakers, who provided answers and insights on the subject matter.
